On November 2, 2010, voters in Jackson Township approved electric aggregation. Government aggregation provides group buying power typically resulting in a better price for electric generation than an individual's price. The government aggregator (Township) chooses the electric generation supplier for all the customers in its group.
Originally, the aggregation program only applied to Ohio Edison customers, but we are now able to also offer savings to residents and small businesses served by American Electric Power (AEP).
The aggregation program provides residents with guaranteed savings on their electric bills. Regardless of the price you pay through your utility, the price you pay through the Jackson Township aggregation program will always be lower. Residential customers of Ohio Edison who participate in the program receive 6 percent off the Price to Compare (PTC), which is the price per kilowatt-hour (KWH) the utility would charge for electric generation service. Small businesses receive 4 percent off the PTC.
Residential and small business customers of AEP’s Ohio Power utility who participate in the program receive 3 percent off the PTC.
The aggregation program is structured so that all eligible residents and small business customers in the community are automatically enrolled. Residents do not need to do anything to join the program. However, anyone who does not want to participate in the program can easily opt out by returning the opt-out form by the due date, which is included in a letter that is mailed to all eligible residents. Residents can choose not to be enrolled in the program and they will not be served by the community’s competitive electric generation supplier, FirstEnergy Solutions.
Your local electric utility will continue to be responsible for the delivery of power to homes and businesses, and will continue to read your meter, maintain poles and wires, and restore power after an outage.
